Proposed System & Estimated Costs

The Foundation has obtained permission from the Myron Stratton Foundation to use Winfield Scott Stratton's original name for the streetcar system which he purchased in 1900, The Colorado Springs & Interurban Railway.  The CS&I has developed a strategy for the first several years of operation. This is incremental, providing for the initiation of trolley service at the earliest possible date, establishing stages for increasing levels of service, allowing for the training of an increasingly larger staff, and matching its operational capability to the progress of the capital funds program.

A preliminary estimate of the cost of construction for the first segment of our system totals about $5 million. This includes the cost of refurbishing our fleet of cars. It is planned to raise the monies required. Completion of the route survey and development of the design work should allow us to refine that number. Unexpected work, such as the need to relocate utilities lines, could adversely affect the cost.
